Gartered Trogon (Trogon caligatus) > Trogonidae > Trogoniformes
IDENTIFICATION: Comparatively small and compact yellow-bellied trogon of tropical lowland forest, primarily in humid areas. Perches at mid to higher ranges, usually excessive in cover. Male has yellow eyering, feminine has damaged white eyering; each sexes have slim black-and-white barring on underside of tail. Feminine Gartered has white barring on its closed wings which feminine Black-headed Trogon lacks. Digs its nest in massive arboreal wasp nests. Was once generally known as Violaceous Trogon.
